Dealing with Anxiety & Depression
In the Darkest Times We Can Find the Light: Part 2
After six years, I decided to leave my job in California and go back to Boston. That wasn’t easy because I knew how hard I had to persevere to get that first job. I realized that you don't need to be President of a company to have a story to share, and I ended up sharing my story with students. Even in the darkest times, we can find the light. #success #darkness #depression #sadness #job #JobSearch #career #move #love #story

Dealing with Anxiety & Depression
In the Darkest Times We Can Find the Light: Part 1
I moved across the country to California after college. After a job fell through, I went on 100 interviews after sending out 1,000 resumes. Every time I walked through a door, I was being judged. I finally got a job with an influential talent agency in LA. #success #darkness #depression #sadness #job #JobSearch #career #move

The Role of Religion
God’s Healing Power
When I was 15, I was falling a lot. The doctors discovered I needed surgery. When I went into the operating room I told my surgeon I was scared and asked if I’d be okay. He asked me, “Do you believe in God?” I said, “Yes.” He didn’t say anything else. I knew it was going to be okay. It was a moment when I had a strong sense of faith. #god #prayer #higherpower

Love Yourself and Be Brave
We need to talk about these various subjects: to find that balance, that harmony within ourselves. We need to love ourselves and be brave. We need to choose good over bad. #bigquestions #good #selflove

The Pursuit of Happiness
Dress up; You’ll Smile More
During one of my darkest times I was in a funky mood and just dressed in a yoga outfit. My friend encouraged me to dress up the next day. She said I’d feel better and smile more. I did. And I’ve continued to dress up more than I would have before. It makes me feel comfortable and it’s easier to smile when you’re comfortable and confident. #happiness

The Pursuit of Happiness
When You Wake Up, Be Thankful You’re Alive
It’s important to wake up every morning and be thankful that you’re alive. Just to wake up and know that you’re here for another day is something to smile about. What makes me happy is when I make others smile. It’s important to have a sense of humor and try to be happy. #happiness

Good, Evil & Drawing the Line
There’s No Reason for Evil
Everyone has their own idea as to where to draw the line between good and evil. It comes down to the principle of doing what you think is right. If you have any hesitation, then it’s probably not right. There’s no reason to be evil. Life’s too short. #goodandevil #good #evil

The Role of Religion
God’s on Your Side
I grew up Catholic and believe if you live the life God wants you to lead, without being disrespectful of others, it’s just having faith that things will work out. God’s on your side. #god

Dealing with Anxiety & Depression
Pat Yourself on the Back for Trying
I’m a worry wart. But when I talk with others, they remind me that things will be okay; it’s not the end of the world. I need others to help me remind me I’m on the right path. Life’s hard. Sometimes we have to give ourselves a pat on the back for trying. #anxiety

Finding & Fulfilling Our Purpose
Realizing My Calling
Several years after college I found an essay I’d written in high school where I said I wanted to be a motivational speaker. I realized it was my calling—something I was passionate about. I knew it would be a long journey. Now I speak to schools and share my story in hopes it will lead to a more inclusive school environment and ideally a more inclusive world. #lifepurpose #journey #passion

Finding & Defining Love
Everyone Deserves to Love
Society assumes that people with disabilities can’t fall in love. Because of that stigma it makes it hard to make romantic relationships work. Everyone deserves to love. I just want to have a human connection with whomever I fall in love. Barriers and criteria fall away as we get older and that’s when you find a more human connection. #love #relationship

Being Alone & Feeling Alone
Friendships: It’s All About Quality, Not Quantity
In grade school I had a friend who helped shield me from bullying. Yet, in high school, the people who had been lifelong friends began to exclude me because they thought I’d embarrass them in certain situations. It wasn’t until I got to college when I realized that it was all about the quality of the friendship, not the quantity of friends that mattered. #loneliness #selflove #lovingyourself #school #bullying

Finding & Fulfilling Our Purpose
Changing Assumptions Changes Attitudes
My mother occasionally joins me when I speak to schools. She’ll notice some students point, laugh and misbehave beforehand and she watches their transformation throughout the speech. They start acting a lot different than they did before. I think that comes from the assumptions they had, and the capabilities they think I didn’t have. I showed that I was human, just like them. #assumptions #attitudes #speaking #schools

Productivity
The Most Powerful Tools
The most powerful tools for me is to always strive to be better and constantly networking. You never know who could be that next connection to that next goal. The exploration of thoughts comes from exploring them with other people rather than keeping them in. You never know what thought could turn into something big. #wordsintoactions

Money, Society & Status
Regardless of Status, One Must Be Respectful
Social status can mean popularity. I don’t think anyone deserves to be any more popular than another. I hope to eliminate the word popular from the vocabulary because it hurts those who aren’t. Social status also applies to economics. No matter your economic status, true values come from how you were raised, being humble, treating others with respect and giving back. #socialstatus #givingback #value

Finding & Fulfilling Our Purpose
The Entertainment Industry Influences Basic Respect
I fell into my life purpose but it was there the whole time. Most people probably have never seen a little person before seeing me. That’s why the entertainment industry is a huge influencer in how I and others like me are treated. I feel as if we shouldn’t be judged by what we see in entertainment. We should get to a point where we all treat each other as human. #lifepurpose

Loving Yourself
Loving Oneself Helps to Love Others
Where I grew up, I was the only one in my community with a physical difference. I had to come to terms with not fitting in. That took a toll on my ability to love myself completely. It’s important to love yourself because you’re the only one you can trust at the end of the day. Yet, if you can learn to love and trust yourself, you can learn to love and trust others just as much. #selflove, #lovingyourself

Achieving Harmony & Balance
Water Aids in Harmony
I find harmony within myself and the universe when I’m by the water. I associate it with water because it’s so peaceful. When I’m at peace, I’m in harmony. #peace #harmony
