Tell Students Today Matters
Currently, education is all about the future and not about the moment. It’s like saying now doesn’t matter. If we tell students real life begins eight to ten years in the future, how does that make them feel? I think that’s why we see a lack of motivation in school. #empowerment #beinghuman #inthemoment

Achieving Harmony & Balance
Harmony Is Giving What You Can
Harmony to me means giving what you can. For me it’s about being who we are and giving what we can, even if that can be challenging and feel uncomfortable. #harmony #mindfulness

Teaching With Authenticity
The most important thing is for teachers to create an authentic, safe engagement in the classroom. If there’s authenticity, your students are exploring who they are in life during that moment. #inthemoment #humanexperience

Let Students Explore Life
The main challenge in education is that we treat the human side as a secondary aspect, and this is often overlooked. I find that a foundational piece in education is giving students a place to explore what life is about. #empowerment #beinghuman #humanexperience

Bonds, Breakups & the Essence of Relationships
Respect in Relationships
We underestimate what respect means. It has to do with holding forth the best in the other, having courage to tell them the truth, making space for them and not imposing our views on them. #relationship #romantic #respect

Realizing None of It is Mine Anyways
I had a big aha moment once where after I’d done intense meditation, I stepped outside and experienced an extraordinary feeling of something profound. Ten minutes later I felt great about myself for discovering this and shortly had the opposite feeling of materialism. I later realized none of it was mine anyways. #harmony #balance #meditation

Being Alone & Feeling Alone
Standing Alone Brings You out of Loneliness
I felt lonely when I was younger. I think that part of the way out of loneliness is to come out of hiding. Life is a way for us to bring forth who we are. Standing alone brings you out of loneliness because you’re being yourself, and that gets shared with others. #loneliness #aloneness

Bringing Humanity Back To Society
Societal level change is challenging, but I think there’s a lot of promise in looking at how different aspects of society are structured and bringing more humanity to them. There’s a lot of potential in adapting institutions so there’s more room for the human side. #beinghuman #humanexperience #socialstatus

The Future of Education
I sent an email to principals, students and thought leaders recently asking “what does taking the lid off education mean to you?”. To my surprise, I received a large variety of answers: the future of education is open to many possibilities. At its core, we need to give students an outlet for their humanity. #mentor #change #knowledge

Social Media: The Good & The Bad
Social media connects us, brings us awareness and helps us exchange ideas. At the same time, it can create information that bubbles around the surface giving us no room for depth. It doesn’t give us room for imagination to fly or for us to work through boredom. #socialmedia

Educating Children Differently
We need to educate children differently in two ways. First, practically we’ve learned more about how kids learn. Second, we need to prepare them for the complexity of life and the fast paced changes of it. If we don’t build a solid center within, it’s inevitable that we’ll feel overwhelmed by it all. #mentor #change #knowledge

Approaching Change in Education
The first premise of our approach to change in education was not to change people. By respecting students, we recognize they are shaping their own lives. An important piece of change is we often think “I will change you” but great teachers recognize “we’re in this together”. #mentor #change #knowledge

The Beauty & Delicacy of Mentorship
Mentorship allows us to have a bridge towards where we are and where we can be. It’s delicate because mentors can sometimes unwillingly pave the way for others. Still, it’s beautiful because it conveys care for others. #productivity #mentor

Viewing Success: Personal & Organizational
Personal success is staying true to who I am, forging ahead and giving my best. In terms of success for my organization, there are certain benchmarks I’d love to reach. I’d love to see our work implemented formally as part of the educational process. I’d love schools in the future to give students an outlet for their humanity. #success

Projects & Anxiety
When I first started my non-profit project, I had a moment of terror because I felt that my life wasn’t going to be in my own hands. But when you notice you’re doing something of importance, what you feel about it becomes less distracting. Things can get overwhelming but it doesn’t make me question what I’m doing. #productivity #wordsintoactions #inspiration

Dealing with Anxiety & Depression
In My Teens, Something Was Missing
As a teenager I was quite depressed. I didn’t have an answer of how to get out of that state because I needed to find out who I was and what life is about. My only way out was to aim for what I envisioned was possible for my life and sticking to that. #depression #childhood #isolation

Teaching Students Self Acceptance
When teaching students about self love and acceptance, a part of the curriculum is about being able to own your strengths. I’m working on a second part, which is looking at what is getting in the way of your gifts and embracing the journey of life. #selflove #lovingyourself #mentor

Self Love Is a Paradox
Self-love is a paradox because there’s a piece of self-love that leads to self-importance, and we have to be able to forget about ourselves. When it comes to self-love, we have to embrace all of who we and as all that’s in the world, which eventually leads to compassion. #lovingyourself #selflove
