I Felt Like We Were Floating
My wedding day was one of the happiest days in my life. We felt so loved that we felt we were floating. We were surrounded by people who love us--even those who were no longer with us. #happiness #romantic #relationship

Celebrating Life to Help Us Grieve
Celebrating the moments you had with a deceased loved one is important. A friend lost her sister to brain cancer and celebrates her sister’s life by participating in a 5K. It’s about finding how we can come together through community and connection in order to grieve. #death #community

The Role of Religion
Translating Catholicism into Everyday Values
I was raised Catholic and I believe that there’s a higher being. Nowadays, I don’t go to church, but I view my Catholic roots as values that have been instilled in me. #religion

Having Cancer in Common
When my husband and I met, he opened up and shared that he had been misdiagnosed with Leukemia. That’s when I told him I was a cancer survivor. It was crazy that we had that in common. #relationship #romantic #cancer #survivors

Running Past the Place That Saved Me
Running helped me overcome cancer. I started with half-marathons and progressed to the New York City Marathon. That marathon was special because I ran past the hospital, the place that gave me a second chance at life. #survivors #cancer

Discovering a Passion for Plank Holds
I remember thinking everyone in my first core fusion barre class was crazy. But I fell in love with the method, and my teachers inspired me to try teaching. I didn’t know if I would succeed, but I tried. I’m so glad I did. #purpose #passion

What Exists Between a Goal and Your Words?
Examine the space between a goal and your words, and look for the little steps you have to take to connect the two. You don’t know what you can do until you try. And if you keep trying, you’re likely to be successful. #wordsintoaction #actions

Every Expert Was a Novice
The consistency is a big piece of turning words into action, so consistency is super important to attaining your goal. So one of my favorite quotes is, "Every expert was a novice," and it's so true, right? So sometimes we can look at, I know when I started, so to back up I suppose, is my journey into teaching fitness. I struggled with it actually, initially, because I was like, "Well, why me? Why, why would I lead people? Why should I... you know, why should I teach? Or why, you know, I don't know, will I be good enough? Will I like it? Will people listen to me? Sometimes they still don't. But, I... there was a lot of that self doubt that came up so turning words into action is really not easy. You have to find a community, you have to find courage, and it's about taking that first step, you're a novice, you take that first step. Guess what? You keep taking your steps, right? Martin Luther King: you take that first step. There's your stair and then maybe the staircase will follow. But we really don't know until we take that first step. We just don't know, I mean, no one knows anything, right? It's like, we try and we do it, maybe.

Focus on the Next Step, Not the Finish Line
I tell cancer patients to stay in the present moment. I found it helpful to make a calendar and sketch out my treatment plan. This enabled me to focus only on the next step in my treatment, and not obsess about the finish line. #cancer #survivors #mindfulness

Celebrate Your Wins, But Prepare for the Next Round
I was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma at the age of 23. When it went into remission, I celebrated by running my first half-marathon. But after the marathon, I discovered the cancer had returned. I turned a page in my medical notebook and wrote: Round two. #cancer #survivors #curveball #fearofdeath
