Ricardo “Rickfire” Velasquez is a hip-hop artist, motivational speaker and Co-Founder of 4 Wheel City, which is an entertainment organization dedicated to showing the world that people with disabilities can still have talents and dreams - and that they deserve equal treatment. He created 4 Wheel City with Namel “Tapwaterz” Norris after gun violence left them in wheelchairs. Ricardo was walking home after a party when he noticed a commotion ahead of him, with people running in all directions. Determined to mind his own business, the high school senior kept heading towards his building in the Bronx housing project. Suddenly, he heard someone shout, “He’s got a gun!” The next thing he knew, Ricardo was on the ground bleeding. Three years later, a resident of the same New York neighborhood, Namel, was paralyzed from a gunshot. They struck up a friendship and formed 4 Wheel City in 2006. 4 Wheel City’s mission is to use hip-hop music and culture to create more opportunities for the disabled and to inspire people not to give up in life. It performs original music and delivers motivational speeches at hospitals, schools, rehabilitation centers, fundraisers and events, all over the world. Ricardo is also involved with Diversability, a global movement to rebrand disability.

Starting 4 Wheel City: Part 1
I was walking home from school one day and got hit by a stray bullet, which left me paralyzed. Three years later, I was introduced to someone in my neighborhood who had a disability as well. He initially didn’t know I produced and I didn’t know he rapped. We’re now best friends and have since founded 4 Wheel City. #productivity #disability

On Death: Fear & Other Feelings
When I Got Shot
When I got shot, I couldn’t believe it. My girlfriend, at the time, was four months pregnant. That was the one thing that kept me focused and not thinking about my disability. I kept pushing to be strong for that child. #death #disability #pregnancy #baby #children #parenting
