My Ski Poles Help Me Meet New People
I walk with iridescent ski poles on account of a disability. I’m used to drawing attention. If people ask about my ski poles, I use that as an opportunity to chat and learn more about their lives. #selflove #curveball

The Pursuit of Happiness
Joy Is a Sustained, Deliberate Decision
I seek joy by practicing gratitude. Gratitude doesn’t depend on external factors; it depends on where you put your focus. #happiness #gratitude

Be One Percent Better Every Day
One of my favorite pieces of advice is to be one percent better every day. One percent is very achievable. This goal keeps us on the road to self-improvement without forcing us to race towards perfection. #removingblocks #selfimprovement

Perfection Is Authenticity
Throw away your idea of perfection. If you can be present and yourself, you’ll be enough. Give the world your authentic self. #selflove

Finding & Defining Love
When Both Sides Get the Better End of the Deal
In the best relationships, both sides feel like they’re getting the better end of the deal. That dynamic provokes a mutual generosity which spurs partners to lift each other up. #love #relationship

Being Alone & Feeling Alone
Focus on What You Love
The more that I focus on what I love doing, the less lonely I feel. So when I notice myself feeling lonely, I do more of what I love. #loneliness

Faith Makes Me Fearless
I’m a woman of faith. Having faith reminds me that I’m not alone, and that in turn makes me fearless. #spirituality #anxiety #love #support #love #suppport #faith

God, I’m Giving This to You
Usually anxiety means I care about an outcome. When I feel anxious, I pray and say, “God I’m giving this to you.” Prayer helps me be excited, not overwhelmed by those risks. #anxiety #spirituality #god #prayer

We’re Often Too Much in the Present
After I was fired from my first job, I didn’t look for a job for 10 months. My next job, however, led me to great opportunities I never saw coming. Had I known everything would be okay, I could have enjoyed those 10 months. I remind myself that we can’t see around the corner. #darkness #purpose #journey #fired #opportunities #job

We Talk Ourselves out of Good Ideas
In high school I sought validation. Eventually I realized that I wanted to be more like my childhood self, bold and fearless. Sometimes we talk ourselves out of the good ideas we have when we’re young. #darkness #childhood

Give Help a Different Feeling
Some of my disabled students say they hate it when people try to help them. I ask them why and we share our definitions of help. That gives help a different feeling the next time they’re offered it. #vulnerability

Flip the Script on Negative Experiences
With my students, the first thing we do is talk about things that have hurt us. If someone hurt us, we ask what that person might have been insecure about. This helps us not vilify others. #goodandevil #vulnerability

Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway
My father set the example for pursuing goals boldly. He became a ski instructor before he had ever been skiing, teaching himself to ski on his lunch breaks. Now when I feel apprehensive about a new adventure, I feel the fear and do it anyway. #fear #actions #justdoit #removingblocks

Finding & Fulfilling Our Purpose
A Ministry, Not a Career
When I decide whether to do something or not, I ask,“Will this help people?” Living a life of service is the greatest priority for me. That’s why I call what I do a ministry, because to minister means to serve. #purpose #journey

If You’re Here, You Haven’t Failed
I don’t believe in failure. What we call failure is just a stepping stone. If you’re here, you haven’t failed. You’re not done yet. #purpose #journey

I Go From Juicy Crumb to Juicy Crumb
I relate to Gretel of Hansel and Gretel. Finding my life purpose has been like going from juicy crumb to juicy crumb. I pursue opportunities that sound fun even if they weren’t part of the plan. #lifepurpose #purpose #journey

We Have a Connective Thread
Sometimes we’re not aware of how connected we are. We can learn from each others’ stories, regardless of whether our experiences are exactly the same. The reason we’re here is to seek wisdom. #TheAOProject

Get the Clouds out of the Way
I teach my students to sweep away the dark clouds of doubt in order to better love themselves. One of the ways in which we do this is by sharing our doubts and realizing how similar they are. #selflove #darkness #honesty

Beware of People-Pleasing
Growing up, I kept looking for love outside of myself. I sought validation from parent and peers. To some extent that stripped me of my personality. My spiritual life has restored my belief that we’re all beautiful as is. #selflove #childhood #spirituality

Claim Joy for Yourself
Harmony isn’t necessarily about everything going smoothly. It’s about looking for learning opportunities in obstacles. It’s about finding joy whether you’re stressed or broke and claiming it for yourself. #harmony #joy
