My Awakenings: Part 1
My journey and transformation had two parts. I had eating disorders in college and in my 20s I fell ill with stomach cramps. Doctors couldn’t properly diagnose me, so I decided to eliminate top food allergens out of my diet, curing my symptoms in three days. That was my first awakening around the impact of food. Meditation Was My Antidepressant
I dove into meditation head first because that was my therapy. Life didn’t stop, but when I could I dedicated my time to meditation in the first few weeks of finding out my brother had a terminal illness. I needed to be of right mind to help support my whole family, but as a side effect meditation changed my life. It’s productive to get into the habit of switching how you constructively criticize yourself. There are ways to look at what you want to improve, and then act upon it. I’ve found that the self-critical loops we have are often because we’re not taking action. An exercise I do every night that helped me tremendously is writing lists on my gratitude and the things I did well. You should try to give yourself love and compassion in small and big ways. The reason why I’m always trying to follow what lights me up and to put content out is because I don’t know how long I’m given. Being My Own Investor
For my creative process, it was helpful that I worked different jobs to be my own business investor. From there, I was able to see what services people wanted from me and create my offerings. I find what can go awry is when people create businesses just so that they can be millionaires. Being Productive Using the Five Second Rule
I just read the book The Five Second Rule by Mel Robbins which was tremendously helpful in turning words into action. You count down from five to one and then you take action. Cutting out stories you tell yourself as to why you’re not doing something is a very helpful tool. I was worried that if I just loved and accepted my body, what if I start eating unhealthy again? It’s the farthest from the case. The second I really loved my body, I treated it better. Recognizing Where You’re Bullying Yourself
An example of self love is me being 15 to 20 minutes late today. 20 years ago, I would be berating myself all day. Seeing that thought come up today, I was able to say “I still love you, it’s going to be fine” to myself.
